Everything you need to know to bring your business into the 21st century!

Before we begin talking about which one you might need, let’s define exactly what each term means. A website is a set of interlinked pages online that generally provide information about a business, individual or organisation. Landing pages can be defined simply as the first page you arrive at when visiting a website.

A website serves a broad purpose and can have many features; it tells a story. It might have an about page, a contact page, mission, values and other pages. When we talk about a landing page, however, we are usually referring to a single page used for advertising, marketing or as a kind of an online business card. It doesn’t generally have many features. One key feature of a landing page is a CTA used to collect contact details and generate leads..

Which one do you need?

To find out which one fits your needs better, first ask yourself what your goal is. Are you looking to create a big platform? To showcase a range of products? To finally give your offline business a digital presence? These situations would generally call for an all-purpose website.

Alternatively, you might be looking to advertise a specific product or service, run a marketing campaign, share some specific information, or generate leads for your business? These activities would be more likely to require a landing page.
If you’re looking to create a general online presence and provide a range of information to your clients, then your choice should probably fall on building a website. If you’re looking to inform about something more specific, , create a targeted marketing campaign, advertise or any other similar goals then you should probably go for a landing page. There are a couple of other things you should know when making this decision.

What do I need to know about creating a landing page?

1

Landing pages aren’t accessible to everybody

Landing pages are usually accessible to people with access to the link, for example through an email, an ad or any other online location.

2

They do not have navigation like a regular website

Landing pages do not need navigation simply because they serve one function: to convert visitors to leads.

3

They contain very few elements

Landing pages generally only contain text, images and sometimes a lead form. Once again, to not distract the user from the end goal.

The main things to bear in mind when creating a landing page are coherent and appealing design, SEO and page loading speed. It is also vital to ensure your message is consistent and focussed.
